eBay were exhibiting at 'The National' in 2026, a national sports trading card convention, thought to be the largest event of its kind in the world, and wanted a booth giveaway that didn't feel like a typical marketing flyer. They needed something that would fit naturally with trading card culture, work for two very different audiences (people who don't sell on eBay yet, and people who already do), and quietly educate both groups about eBay Seller Capital without feeling like a hard sell.
I designed a set of six trading-card-style coupons, styled like real cards you'd pull from a pack, split into three rarity tiers (common, uncommon, rare) and two audiences. For people who don't sell on eBay, the cards introduced the idea of starting a collectibles business, with a gift card as the reward on the rarer pulls. For existing sellers, the cards offered increasing discounts on Seller Capital fees as the rarity went up, with the rarest card designed to feel like a genuine "big win" pull. Each card kept a simple front-and-back format with a QR code linking through to the right next step.
eBay and the booth team responded really positively, particularly to how closely the cards matched their branding and how the pack-pulling format turned a straightforward marketing message into something more like a game.
